He is survived by
his wife and best friend of 43 years, Barb Maves; his children: Meghann
Maves of Portage, Maureen (Brett) Wiman of Portage, and Patrick Maves of
Valparaiso; his sister, Lynda (Raymond) Grivetti of LaPorte; and by his
nieces, Maggie Grivetti of Lowell and Rae Benson of Valparaiso. He also
leaves behind his three beloved and spoiled cats: Moji, Max, and Molly.
Jeff grew up in
Gary and attended Indiana University Northwest (where he met Barb) before
joining Inland Steel, now Arcelor Mittal. Jeff worked as an Expediter and
held various other positions for 30 years, retiring in 2006. He loved
fishing, golfing, gardening, photography, traveling -- especially in the
West and in Canada, military history, classic movies, political science and
spirited discussion. He was a huge sports fan and faithfully followed his
teams: the Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks, and Indiana University
basketball. He was a member of USWA Local 1010 and Deep River Church of
Christ. Jeff will be greatly missed by those who love him.
Funeral services
will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at 11 a.m., at White-Love Funeral
Home, 525 South Second Street, Chesterton.
The family will
receive friends on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at
the funeral home.
