Jeffrey A. Maves, age 67, of Chesterton, formerly of Highland, passed away on August 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 31, 1950 in Gary, IN to Arthur and Louise Maves, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Barb Maves; his children: Meghann Maves of Portage, Maureen (Brett) Wiman of Portage, and Patrick Maves of Valparaiso; his sister, Lynda (Raymond) Grivetti of LaPorte; and by his nieces, Maggie Grivetti of Lowell and Rae Benson of Valparaiso. He also leaves behind his three beloved and spoiled cats: Moji, Max, and Molly.

Jeff grew up in Gary and attended Indiana University Northwest (where he met Barb) before joining Inland Steel, now Arcelor Mittal. Jeff worked as an Expediter and held various other positions for 30 years, retiring in 2006. He loved fishing, golfing, gardening, photography, traveling -- especially in the West and in Canada, military history, classic movies, political science and spirited discussion. He was a huge sports fan and faithfully followed his teams: the Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks, and Indiana University basketball. He was a member of USWA Local 1010 and Deep River Church of Christ. Jeff will be greatly missed by those who love him.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at 11 a.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South Second Street, Chesterton.
