Robert Lee “Bob”
Engelhardt, age 81, of Portage, IN, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017.
He was born on
March 20, 1936, in Chicago, IL, to the late Noah and Emma Engelhardt.
He married Carolyn
Klok on August 31, 1957, who preceded him in death.
Bob is survived by
his sons, Brian, Gregory and Dean (Betsy); daughters, Melody Riley, Vanessa
(Allen) Gardner and Monica Bradley; one brother, George (Shirley) Engelhardt;
two sisters, Marie LaVine and Virginia (Duane) Scharpf; 16 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was an active
member of the Chesterton Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years.
Bob grew up on a farm near Bremen, IN. He was well known to be a very
caring, loving person. He had a deep love for the Bible and was always
sharing with others the truths found therein. Bob so looked forward to the
time when the Earth will become a beautiful paradise when there will be no
more sickness and death.
Bob owned a
construction business known as Engelhardt Construction. He did work on many
Kingdom Halls of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He even went to England to work on
Kingdom Halls. After retirement Bob did woodworking. He made many wooden
bowls, spoons, and cutting boards the old fashioned way by hand. He went to
many shows displaying and selling there. Bob was a member of Portage
Historical Society, NIPHA, Woodworking Society and a volunteer for the
National Lakeshore. Bob will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service
will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 4:00 p.m., at Ambassador
Banquet Center, 1967 E. 37th Ave. Hobart, IN 46342.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be made to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave.,
Valparaiso, IN, 46383, or jw.org.
