Ruth Carol Chambers, age 80, of LaPorte, Ind., passed away peacefully at 7 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2013 at Indiana University Health LaPorte Hospital.

She was born May 3, 1932, in Chesterton, Ind., to Earl and Ruby (Denhem) Johnson.

In June 1956, in Angola, Ind., she married, Donald Chambers, who preceded her in death in 2003.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Roger Johnson; three children, Earl Howard, Theresa Masterson and Roger Chambers and three grandchildren, Christopher Hayes, Eric Lietzan and Maryanne Chambers.

Surviving are eight children: Carolyn (Jake) Williams of Chesterton, Ind., Cynthia (Richard) Slater of LaPorte, Ind., Curtis (Carol) Chambers and Rodney Chambers, both of Las Vegas, Nev., Michael (Trina) Chambers and David (Lori) Chambers, both of LaPorte, Daniel (Kim) Chambers of Columbia City, Ind. and Trudy (Jim) Lietzan of Mishawaka, Ind.; four step-children, Donald (Karlene) Chambers of Texas, Cheryl (Pat) Rogers, Carol (Rick) Hughes and Christine (Ted) Leslie, all of Michigan City, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Genevieve Johnson of LaPorte; thirty-six grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

Ruth lovingly cared for her home and family. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, LaPorte, Ind.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., LaPorte (219) 362-3100 is caring for the arrangements.
