William Charles Poland dies at age 78

William Charles “Chuck,” “Bill,” Poland, age 78 of Westville, Ind., formerly of Hammond, Ind., passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 23, 1936 in Evansville, Ind., to Ralph and Thelma (Qualls) Poland.

On September 28, 1957, in Hammond, Ind., he was married to Dorothy (Wilczynski) Poland who survives of Westville.

He is also survived by his sons, David (Brenda) Poland of Chesterton; Kevin Poland of Hammond, Ind.; William Poland Jr. of Charleston, S. Car.; and Patrick (Tammy) Poland of Westville; sister, Phillis (Ken) Norton of Augusta, Mich.; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Paul) Zarowny of Hammond; grandchildren, William III, Kristina, Christopher, Zachary, Ross, Amanda, Heather, Faith, Colin, and Jack Poland and many nieces and nephews.

He preceded in death by his parents and brother, Phillip Poland.

Bill was an electrician at LTV Steel. He graduated from Corydon High School in Corydon, Ky. He enjoyed photography, chess, and was a computer hobbyist.

Private funeral services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Edmonds and Evans, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
