Susan Ostrander, (Lomas), age 54, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away July 20,
2013 after a one year battle with cancer.
She was born on October 1, 1958, to William and Diane (Cooper) Lomas.
She is survived by her parents, William (Barb) Lomas of Buffalo, N.Y. and
Diane Worthington of Kissimmee, Fla.; children, Colleen Ostrander, Danielle
Ostrander and Joseph Ostrander, all of Valparaiso; step-children, Cristi
(Joseph) Subart and Donn Ostrander, all of Hobart, Ind., and Jaime (Robert)
Holman of Lynchburg, Tenn.; siblings, William Lomas, Karen (Richard) Smith,
Kevin (Jody) Lomas, Kenneth (Mary) Lomas, Eileen (Bill) Balke and Matthew
(Debbie) Lomas; grandchildren, Kyler, Addison, Michael, Jaclin, Stephanie,
Delaney, Skylar, Victoria, David, Hailey, Abbye, Amberlyn, and Riley and
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ostrander; brother, Joey
Lomas; and great-grandchild, Madalin.
Susan graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1976. After graduating from
Ball State, she dedicated her life to teaching special education. She most
recently taught at Farrar Elementary School in Tullahoma, Tenn. She was also
the former owner of Memories R Forever in Chesterton. She thoroughly enjoyed
her hobbies of photography and crafting, including making photo quilts.
Susan touched many lives.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage,
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Portage Chapel.
