The funeral mass for Joan Turner has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 7 at 10:00 AM at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage, with visitation one hour prior. Moellerfuneralhome.com

Joan Turner (born Giovanna Parise) passed away peacefully on New Year’s Day at the age of 84.

She was preceded in death by her husband Patrick J. Turner; her parents Maria and Giovanni Parise; her sisters Maria and Inez, as well as her brothers, John and Adelino.

She and Patrick had two children, Patrick (Cariann) and Ken (Chris) of Jackson Twp., as well as eight grandchildren; Justin, Philip, Courtney, Erin, Alec, Sarah, Trevor and Julia.

She grew up in Roseland, Ill. She and Patrick married and later moved to South Holland, Mich., and later Merrillville, Ind.

For many years, Joan and Pat owned and operated Pacesetter Beauty Supply in Gary, Ind., and then Merrillville.

Joan ultimately moved to Valparaiso where she volunteered for many years at St. Agnes Adult Day Service Center. She was a compassionate person who always led by example. She spent the last two years at Moses Care Givers in Valparaiso, Ind., and the family would like to thank those who attended to her needs there.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 7 at 10:00 AM at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage, Ind., the Rev. Andrew Corona officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, Ill.

Visitation will be Sunday, 1-4 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, Ind., with a wake service at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation will take place Monday at the church, one hour prior to the mass.
