Nita Carter services Saturday

Nita M. Carter, age 84 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Waters of Duneland.

She was born on July 12, 1929 in Tallahassee, Fla., to Wayne and Lucinda Ann Bliss Henry, both of whom preceded her in death.

Nita is survived by her husband Lowell Carter, of Chesterton.

Also surviving are her children Rosalie (Clarence of LaPorte) Sitter of Sneads Ferry, N. Car.; Kent (Bert) Carter of LaPorte, Ind.; Scott (Karen) Carter of Valparaiso, Ind.; Carol (Guy) Belcher of Valparaiso; her grandchildren Kevin, Dawn, Shaun, Candace, Tony, Destiney, Jessica, Shaun, Melissa, Gabrielle and Jacob; 14 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother, Mickey (Betty) Overstreet of Danville, Ill., and her sister, Madge (Bill) Hazelwood of Harbinger, N. Car.

She is preceded in death by her brother Bobby Overstreet.

Nita, along with her husband Lowell, was a member of the Chesterton Moose Lodge 1623 and American Legion Post 170. Nita was a Portage Township school bus for many years and generations. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed bowling and dancing.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 12 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, with Father Thomas Kincaid officiating.
