Lynne Proper dies at age 70; service Tuesday

Lynne “Lynnie” A. Proper (nee Billings), age 70, of Chesterton, Ind., passed away April 24, 2014, in Hobart, Ind.

She was born in Michigan City, Ind., on April 22, 1944, to Gerald and Lois (Warren) Billings.

Lynnie is survived by her brother, Gerry (Holly) Billings of Rhode Island; sister, Sue Billings of Chesterton; nieces, Jenny Buczkowski, Kate Margulius and Margaret Vallese; nephew, Graham Billings; seven great-nieces and nephews and former husband, Jerry Proper of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; brother-in-law, Douglas Buczkowski; uncle, Ralph Warren; and special friends, Jack Pratt and John Dickinson.

Lynnie was a self-employed Restaurateur and business owner; she owned and operated Lynnie’s Restaurant in Chesterton for many years. She graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree. She also went to Dental Hygienist School in Elkhart, Ind. Lynnie enjoyed painting the lake and animals. She adored her family and many friends. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., with Pastor Mike Eddy officiating. Interment will be in Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Independent Cat Society in Westville, Ind., or Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL, 60601.
