Louis Abbett services Saturday

Louis R. Abbett, 70, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Monday, December 9, 2013.

He was born October 12, 1943, in Rensselaer, Ind., to Virgil and Doris (Price) Abbett.

On August 20, 1966 he married Joan Haworth, who survives along with their children Glenn (Leslie) Abbett of LaCrosse, Ind., Mark (Kimberly) Abbett of Chesterton, Ind., Susan (Chad) Abbett Chance of Pilot Point, Texas, Gerald (Andrea) Abbett of Valparaiso, Ind., his sister, Yvonne (Henry) Dorsett of Spotsylvania, Va. and 12 grandchildren: Tyler, Austin, Casey and Grace Abbett, Lillian, Amelia, Scarlet and Oliver Abbett, Jade and Vail Johnson and Jameson Abbett.

He graduated from Kingsbury High School, attended Bethel College and received his B. S. in Agriculture and Physical Education from Western Michigan University. Louis farmed his entire career and had owned and operated A&M Farm Center, Inc., in Morgan Township, since 1980. His love of agriculture and the related community that surrounds it consumed his daily thought process from an early age. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Wanatah, Northwest Indiana Antique Tractor Pullers Association and had been named National Outstanding Young Farmer by the Jaycees in 1975.

Louis was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Abbett, mother, Doris Abbett Pflugh and brother, Bernard Abbett.

The funeral service will be held Saturday 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 15555 S. 900 W., Wanatah, Indiana, 46390.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 - 8 p.m. at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave., Chesterton, Indiana, 46304.
