Linda Ebert Kilander, age 70 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away on Sunday,
September 29, 2013, at VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Ind.
She was born on February 5, 1943, to J.W. Ebert, who survives in Crossville,
Tenn., and Vearl Ebert, who preceded her in death.
On July 16, 1969 in Terre Haute, she married Larry Kilander, who also
preceded her in death in 1996.
Linda is survived by her children Ginny (William Hopkins) Kilander of
Laramie, Wyo., and Skott (Jennifer) Kilander of Harrisburg, Penn.;
granddaughter Chassidy Kilander; sisters Ann Ebert of Crossville, Tenn., and
Carol Gardner of Edwardsville, Ill.; as well as brother-in-law David (Jane)
Kilander of Valparaiso, niece Deborah (Greg) Moss of Valparaiso and nephew
Aaron (Ericka) Kilander of Chesterton.
Also, great nieces and nephews Taylor, Zachary, and Caden Mockler, Drake and
Madeline Moss and Madison and Connor Kilander survive.
Linda was a counselor for the Duneland School System at the beginning of her
professional career. She then worked as a Spanish teacher at Chesterton High
School and went on several trips to Spain with the Spanish Club. She was
past president of Duneland Teachers Association. She was also a leader for
Drifting Dunes Girl Scouts, a camp director, Neighborhood Leader and Leader
of the Year.
Linda was a Hospice volunteer and a volunteer at Westchester Food Pantry.
Linda first began dancing at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, where she
performed in many ballroom dancing competitions, winning many trophies.
Later, she became a board member of USA Dance, past president and secretary.
She was editor and writer for the “Dance News.” She belonged to many
quilting and knitting groups, yoga groups and was an avid reader and
crafter. When her children were young, she and her husband Larry enjoyed
fishing, camping, canoeing and cross country skiing. She was also an
American Red Cross Canoe Instructor.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton. During the
service, friends will be invited to reminisce and share their favorite
memories of Linda. Burial will follow in the Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, from 4 to 8
p.m. at the White-Love Funeral, 219-926-1309.
