James McGrogan service April 15

James C. McGrogan, age 39 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away in Eagle County, Colo.

He was born on November 11, 1974, in Valparaiso, Ind., to William J. and Arlene J. (Nover) McGrogan, who survive of Porter, Ind.

He was married on July 31, 1999, in Chesterton, to Sharon Welsh, daughter of Robert and Lynn Welsh.

He is also survived by his wife, children, David and Alaina McGrogan of Chesterton; sisters, Vicki (Mike) Hickle of Chesterton; Lisa (Jason) Trolinder of Custer, Wash.; and Molly Redman of Valparaiso; brothers, Bill McGrogan of Jacksonville, Fla.; John McGrogan of Chesterton; and Nick (Sarah) McGrogan of Chesterton.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Rosemary McGrogan and maternal grandfather, Carl Nover.

Jim graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2003. After completing his internship and residency he joined Southern Wisconsin Emergency Associates in Janesville, Wisc., where he practiced for seven years. In 2013 Jim and Sharon returned to Chesterton to be closer to their families and Jim joined Valley Emergency Physicians in Mishawaka, Ind. Jim was a Tiger Cub Scout leader and a regular volunteer in his children’s classrooms. He also volunteered at the Shalom Holistic Health Services Clinic in Stoughton, Wisc. Jim loved hiking, camping, canoeing, snowboarding, running and competing in triathlons. But more than anything, he was a devoted husband and father who loved his wife and children and who was in turn loved by them. He will be missed.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chesterton United Methodist Church, 434 S. 2nd Street, Chesterton. Reverend Terry Rhine will be officiating, along with Father Jerry Schweitzer and Pastor Scott Tyring. A private burial will take place at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
