George Wayne Kalas,
age 78 of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at the
University of Chicago.
He was born on May
10, 1936 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late George and Bessie (Wolf) Kalas.
George was a U.S.
Army Veteran and earned an Associate’s Degree in Electronic Technology from
Valparaiso Technical Institute. He retired as an Electronic Engineer after
35 years of service from Bethlehem Steel. George was a member of St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Chesterton, where he served as an elder and an usher. He
was also a member of the American Legion Post 451 of Michigan City. One of
George’s favorite past times was working as an amateur radio operator.
On December 28,
1958 in Medaryville, George married Helen Kain who survives along with their
daughter, Jennifer Kalas of Chicago; and two sisters, Josie (Lamar) Bates of
Grapevine, TX, and Joyce (Skip) Wojcysiak of Mesa, AZ.
will be held on Saturday, November 29, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran
Church, 106 East 1100 North, Chesterton, with The Rev. Erich R. Fickel
officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, Medaryville.
Visitation will be
Friday from 3-7 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso,
and Saturday at church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers,
memorials are requested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Chesterton.
