Evelyn Marie Johnson, age 91, of Chesterton, Ind., passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 at her home.

She was born June 24, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Victor E. and Ruth Anderson Johnson.

Evelyn met her future husband, Delmar Johnson, of Chesterton, Ind., on one of her many church activities, in which she was very active.

On April 27, 1947 she married Delmar T. Johnson, in Chicago, Ill.

This loving union lasted just over 50 years with Delmar passing away on May 7, 1997.

She is survived by her two daughters and their families Adele (Ronn) Eggert of Indianapolis, Ind., and Lynne (Thomas) Martin of Valparaiso, Ind.; grandchildren, Jennifer Martin of Valparaiso, Samuel Dayton of Indianapolis and Michele Dayton of Bloomington, Ind.; sister-in-law Gerri Dickert; brother-in-law James Zaideman, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Gertrude (Bruno) Tauras, brother and sister-in-laws Wilbur and Edna Johnson, Lloyd and Betty Johnson, Helen and Laverne Johnson, Arby Dickert, Lavonne Zaideman and Bruno Tauras.

Before her marriage, Evelyn attended Bryant and Stratton Business School in Chicago, Ill., and shortly after graduation started working for United Airlines at Midway Airport in Chicago. After marrying and moving to Chesterton in 1947, she worked part time for Joseph P. Griffin, M.D. of Chesterton while continuing her homemaking and church activities. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Chesterton, where she held various positions in the Lutheran Church Women. Evelyn was a charter member of the Westchester Home Economics which met monthly for many years. She also enjoyed playing pinochle monthly at her canasta club. Throughout her days in Chicago and Chesterton she remained a loyal Cubs fan. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her husband, daughters and family, baking and entertaining and keeping up with her Luther League and lifelong friends Laverne Hubbard, Gloria Welch, Florence Werts, Marie Liljedahl, and Vivian Schmidt.

Evelyn will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, from Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W. 1100 N., Chesterton, Ind., with Pastor Thelma Cobbler officiating. Burial will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 28, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, Ind.
