Back To Front Page

Ethel Hake, of Jackson Township, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the age of 88.

She was born and raised on a farm in Nebraska, and spent most of her adult life in Highland, Ind.

Ethel is survived by her sister, Margaret Olson of St John, Ind., her daughter Nancy Hake and grandchildren Jordan and Kylie Surgot, of Jackson Township, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Ethel enjoyed woodworking, bowling, Scrabble, and crocheting - the baby afghans she crocheted have warmed and comforted many a newborn. She leaves a legacy of love, humor and compassion.

Ethel did not want formal services, but asked that her family and friends honor her memory by passing along her example of love and kindness to their families, friends and most importantly to strangers.

Ethelís family would like to thank the caring staff of Rittenhouse in Valparaiso for offering her the comfort and love of an extended family. Ethelís favorite cause was the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and any contribution made in her memory would be appreciated.

Donations may be mailed to JDRF, Northern Indiana Branch, 2004 Ironwood Cr, #140, South Bend, IN, 46635. Arrangements are being handled by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind.
