Edward Worthington dies at age 80

Edward M. Worthington, age 80, of Crown Point, Ind., and formerly of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the Chicagoland Christian Village in Crown Point.

He was born December 28, 1932, in Cynthiana, Kentucky, to Thomas and Anna Mae (Fryman) Worthington, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son, Gerald (Gloria) Worthington of Montgomery, Ala.; three grandchildren, Tara Lynn (Adam) Sasser, Michelle Renee (John) Hamstra and Jason Edward Worthington; seven great-grandchildren, Adeline, John Michael, Nicholas, Greyson, Maxwell, Carson and Harper; three sisters-in-law Cathie (Roger) Billhardt, Janet Larrimore and Shirley Worthington and several nieces and nephews.

Edward was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonney; two brothers, John and Roy Worthington, and sister, Alta Mary Worthington.

He was a Manager at USS Tubing Specialties and the US Steel Gary Works Tin Mill, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church and CrossPointe Christian Church. Edward was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Roosevelt Lodge F&AM and the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Ind. He was a life member of the Northwest Indiana Bowling Association and member of its Hall of Fame as well as a member of the Indiana State Bowling Hall of Fame. He also was a charter member of the US Steel Supervisors Club.

Memorial visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Rees Funeral Home, Windfield Chapel, 10909 Randolph St., Windfield/Crown Point, Ind., 46307, with a Masonic Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m.

Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Hamstra, officiating.

Memorial gifts are preferred to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in lieu of flowers.
