David Brian Melton, age 56 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Sunday, Feb. 9 at home with his family around him. David was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2009 and has fought a long and courageous battle against this disease.

He is survived by his children, Echo (Jason) Denny, Holly (Brent) Bradford, two grandchildren, Jason and Ellery Denny, three sisters, Geri (Dave) Rose-Sprinkle

Debbie (Sonny) Cahall and Janet Dezarn. He is also survived by his longtime companion and girlfriend, Karen Harwood.

David was a prominent attorney, well respected by his peers throughout the legal community. He enjoyed music, art, writing, and sports of all kind.

He also enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St., Valparaiso, Ind. and a “Celebration of David’s Life” dinner will immediately follow the Memorial at the Valparaiso Elks Lodge, 157 Jefferson St., Valparaiso. All family members, friends and colleagues of David are encouraged and welcome to attend this celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to “Hero’s for Hope Leukemia Research Foundation.”
