Cecilia Nowatzke services Friday

Cecilia Nowatzke, 96, 8993 W. 300 N., Michigan City, Ind., passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 9:22 p.m. in St. Anthony Inpatient Hospice, Michigan City.

She was born July 28, 1916 in Otis, Ind., to the late Michael J. and Helen (Witek) Kobos, Sr.

On September 16, 1939 in Otis, Ind., she married Oscar J. Nowatzke, who preceded her on June 12, 1997.

Surviving are three daughters; Margie Nowatzke, of Porter, Ind., Barbara (Darrel) Cavin, Michigan City, Ind., and Catherine (Dennis) Sullivan, Edwardsville, Ill.; three sons, Theodore (Mary) Nowatzke, Michigan City, Ind., Thomas (Kris) Nowatzke, Ann Arbor, Mich. and James (Linda) Nowatzke, Conklin, Mich.; 18 grandchildren, Michael Nowatzke, Patty (Clint) Rose, Thomas (Denise) Nowatzke, Nick Nowatzke and Ryan Nowatzke, Jennifer (Darrel) Spicher, Jill Nowatzke, Nick Nowatzke, Ryan Nowatzke, Kevin Morrison, Scott (Amy) Morrison, Joanne (Al) Osmer, Charlene (Kevin) McGuire, Suzanne Cavin, Daniel (Lindsey) Cavin, Cynthia Cavin, Spc. Kevin Sullivan (US Army) and Sean Sullivan; 19 great-grandchildren, Joe Nowatzke, Adam and Ben Rose, Eric and Dalton Spero, Vincent, Gianna and Ava Nowatzke, Brock and Brynne Spicher, Bradley, Ryan, and Jessica Osmer, Amber Morrison, Samantha, Jack and Caleb McGuire, Emily and Chase Cavin; sister, Mary Kolasa, Rolling Prairie, Ind. and brother, Michael J. Kobos, Jr., Otis, Ind.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Stella (Ray) Hahn, Angeline (Ralph) Gorski, Frances (Chester) Piotrowski and Theresa (John) Boehnlein; brothers, Stanley (Helen), John (Helen) and Casimir (Teresa) Kobos.

Cecilia (Grandma) was a homemaker and a member of Queen of all Saints Catholic Church in Michigan City. She was a member of the Rosary Sodality, Senior Citizens Center, former member of the Moose Lodge Family Center 980. A member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary #2536, Michigan City and a former member of the LaPorte Co. Extension Club. She also had previously worked for the Michigan City School System at Coolspring School and Rogers High School in the cafeteria. She enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting and baking pies for her great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am Friday, April 5, 2013 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 So. Woodland Ave., Michigan City, with the Rev. Kevin Huber, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and the Women's Auxiliary #2536 will conduct a Memorial service at 6:30 p.m. both Thursday in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.
