Barbara Piper services Thursday

Barbara K. Piper, age 85, of Porter, Ind., passed away Monday, April 14, 2014.

Barbara was born in Chicago, Ill., on October 20, 1928, to Nicholas and Margaret (Cohrs) Simon.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Willie) Lundewall of Portage, Ind., Jackie (Terry) Carter of Jackson, Mich., Wayne Piper of Staton, Mich., and Janet (Brandon) Muchesko of Porter; grandchildren, Kathy (Jon) Harrington, Jennifer (David) Kasarda, Rachel Piper, Danny Piper, Christopher Carpenter, Stephen (Melissa) Carter, Greg Carter and Cody Gambling; great grandchildren, Aidan Harrington, Jacob and Emily Kasarda; brother, David (Marcy) Samuelsen of Cherry Valley, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews and close family friend, Dena Roths of Chesterton.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Nicholas Simon; parents, Margaret and Andrew Samuelsen; husband, Leroy Piper; sister, Joan Firehock and daughter-in-law, Barbara Jo Piper.

Barb was an avid bingo player; a former Girl Scout leader, a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 846, and served as chaplain for many years. She was active for years with her husband in the Northwest Indiana Mule and Horse Association. Barb loved her family and enjoyed the holidays and making old family recipes with her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place and interment of cremains will be at McCool Cemetery at a later date.
