Chesterton resident Ladaune Shivalec, 83, Chesterton, died Sunday, Sept. 15,
2013, at VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.
She was born on April 19, 1930, in Gary, the daughter of Fred and Charlotte
Marcinkowski Thoesen, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Dave Shivalec and Fred (Kathy) Shivalec, both
of Chesterton; grandchildren Steve Shivalec and David (Kim) Shivalec, both
of Chesterton, Mike (Stephanie) Jones of Kouts, and Jenny (Eric) Wright of
Terre Haute; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Jones in July 2013 and by
her siblings Eugene Thoesen, Beatrice Weaver and Lorraine Bray.
Ladaune was a meat wrapper at Buy Low Supermarket and a member of St.
Patrick Church. She played on the “Porterettes” baseball team, bowled for
years in East Gary, and was an avid player of Bunco. In her later years she
enjoyed going to plays in Michigan City, Valparaiso, and Cedar Lake, and
cooking, and family reunions and Christmas were always celebrated at her
home. She enjoyed tending to her plants outside and spending time with her
children and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the
White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South Second Street in Chesterton, with
cremation to follow.
