Alvin 'Dale' Johnson services Wednesday

Alvin “Dale” Johnson, age 84 of San Pierre, formerly of Chesterton, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his home.

He was born on May 12, 1929 in Pontiac, Mich., to Alvin and Astrid Alquist-Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death.

Dale is survived by his children Ted (Lucinda) Johnson of Howe, Ind., Dana (Sherri) Johnson of Westville, Nancy (George) Graves of Smyrna, Del. and Erik (Melissa) Johnson of South Haven; grandchildren Graham Johnson, Shelbi Johnson and Noah Johnson; step-children Betty Jean (Alan) Walker of Portage and Scarlett (Matt) Woods of Valparaiso; step-grandchildren Christopher Brock, Tyler (Brittany) Stoddard and step-great-granddaughter, Ashlynne.

Also surviving is his brother Gregg (Joanne) Johnson of Bark River, Mich., and sister-in-law Pat Johnson of Gladstone, Mich. Dale also had very close former step sons-in-law, Chris Brock and Scott Stoddard.

Dale was also preceded in death by his wife Peggy in 2006, brothers Wally and Curtis, his son Gregg in 1973, and his granddaughter Paige in 1988.

Dale worked as a Foreman at the Budd Co. Car Stamping Plant and was a member of Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed watching the Bears and fireworks, setting them off, blowing them up. He was also a Judge for the Township, working in Porter County as a Justice of the Peace.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, with Pastor Erik Bernth officiating. Burial will follow in the Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
