Chesterton resident Ronald “Pops” Lhotak passed away Saturday, Feb. 18,
2012. He was 68.
Born in Evergreen Park, Ill., on August 14, 1943, he was the son of Frank
and Anne (Slezak) Lhotak. On August 15, 1964, in Chicago, he married
Virginia Thedens, who survives in Chesterton.
Also surviving are sons Kevin Lhotak of Valparaiso and Kraig (wife Jennifer)
Lhotak of Chesterton; daughter, Kim (husband Miles) Nilson of Chesterton;
grandchildren Kris, Kraig Jr., Heather, Adam, Danielle, Sarah and Braiden;
brother Dennis (wife Nancy) Lhotak of Naperville, Ill.; nephew, John (wife
Michelle) Lhotak of Salt Lake City, Utah; niece, Kathy Lhotak of Naperville;
and many cousins.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anne Lhotak.
He was the owner and CEO of Reliable Transportation in Chesterton, where he
recently celebrated his 25th year in business. He was a wonderful man and
giving person. He loved his country and enjoyed his family and spending time
with his grandchildren. He considered all the employees at Reliable his
extended family. He was an inspiration and a man of success. His legacy and
visions will live on.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton. The funeral
service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home,
with Father James Meade officiating. Entombment will be at Graceland
Cemetery, Valparaiso. Memorials in Ronald’s name may be made to the American
