Phyllis Jean Kerr, age 81 of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Monday, April 9, 2012, in South Bend, Ind.

She was born May 26, 1930 in Chicago, Ill., to Russell and Ellen (Steele) Marshall, both of whom preceded her in death.

Phyllis was married to Jack Kerr, who preceded her in death in 2000.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Deborah (David) Keenan of South Bend, Ind., and Gayle (Dennis) Campbell of Lebanon, Ind.; step-daughter, Marjorie (Marvin) Mayberry of Peoria, Ill.; brother, Russell Marshall of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister, Martha Hunter of Kalamazoo, Mich.; four granddaughters; six grandsons; one great-grandson; and her companion, Bill Carper of Valparaiso, Ind.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Bruce Linden Thorn; step-son, Jim Kerr; brother, William Marshall; and sisters, Ellen Goins and Sandra Inman.

Phyllis was a member of Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene. She worked as an Apartment Manager for State Place Apartments. She was a graduate of Portage High School and stayed in contact with many of her high school friends, meeting with them every month.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, Ind., with Pastor Duane Schmidt officiating.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at McCool Cemetery at a later date.
