Naomi R. Tavernier, age 78, of Porter, Ind., passed away Sunday, July 22,
2012.
Naomi was born in Elkhart, Ind., on April 27, 1934 to Ivan M. and Fern P. (Holderbaum)
Tavernier, both of whom preceded her in death.
Naomi is survived by her sister, Shirley (Donald) Sharpe, of Portage, Ind.;
nephew, Don Sharpe II, of Portage, Ind.; niece, Diane (Dale) Misch, of
Portage, Ind.; great-nephews, Brad Sharpe and Thomas (Stefanie) Misch;
great-niece, Melinda Misch and great-great-nieces, Jodie Burns, Madelyn
Misch and Amy Misch.
She graduated from Chesterton High School in 1952. Naomi worked for Midwest
Steel for 30 years as the “Insurance Lady” before retiring in 1994. She was
a member of Liberty Bible Church since 1954 where she taught Sunday School
for 23 years; served in the Missionary Committee and went out on visitation
for many years. She was a super player on the Porter V-Ettes fast pitch
softball team for many years and she played on the church team as well. She
was also a member of the Retirees Club from Midwest Steel.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at
Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind. Interment will
take place at Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton, Ind.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind.
Memorial donations may be made to Liberty Bible Church, Christian Haven or
Kids Alive International.
