Myrna Dyne Trowbridge, D.O., 74, died peacefully in her Valparaiso, Ind.,
home October 18, 2012, after losing her battle with pancreatic cancer.
Myrna was born
March 6, 1938, in Valparaiso to Edward and Elizabeth Magnuson.
She is survived
by four children: Brett (Becky) Trowbridge of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.;
Glenda (John) Dinyari, of Durham, N. Car.; Stacy (Mark) Mina of Mansfield,
Mass., and Gina (Ron) Harker of Carmel, Ind.
Other survivors
are sisters-in-law, Carol (Steve) Walker of Jackson Twp.; Peggy Trowbridge
of Valparaiso; and Janet (Ralph) Trowbridge of Muncie, Ind.; as well as six
grandchildren.
Myrna was
preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Robert A. Trowbridge;
brother Gillett; and sister Allene.
At age 50, after
having supported the Magnuson-Trowbridge Insurance Agency, 1959 –1974,
having raised four children, and having been the organist at First
Presbyterian Church, Valparaiso, 1960 – 1981, Myrna enrolled in the Chicago
College of Osteopathic Medicine from which she received her degree in 1987.
From 1988 to
2010 she opened and provided patient care at Optimum Health Center,
Valparaiso, Ind. Through this endeavor she offered superior, compassionate
allopathic and alternative care to many people in this community.
Having been
valedictorian of the Valparaiso High School class of 1955, Myrna went on to
attend DePauw University where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi social
sorority and she earned her B.S. degree in music at Indiana University in
1959.
Myrna was a life
member of the American Association of University Women and served as
president of the Valparaiso branch 1973-1975. She was also a member of the
P.E.O. Chapter B.O., for which she served in multiple positions, a member of
First Presbyterian church and a 1959 Mu Phi Epsilon at Indiana University.
A memorial
service celebrating Myrna’s life will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m.
at First Presbyterian Church, Valparaiso. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 9,
from 2 – 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Myrna’s ashes will be
interred in the Magnuson family plot at Graceland Cemetery.
