Grace Amanda Dolk, age 92 of Porter, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012
at Porter Hospital Valparaiso Campus.
She was born July 26, 1918 in Chesterton to Frank Emil and Amanda Myrtle
Winifred Pillman Peterson, both of whom preceded her in death.
On April 9, 1942, she married Charles A. Dolk at Augsburg Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Porter, who preceded her in death July 16, 1989.
Grace is survived by her children Frank G. Dolk of Lafayette, Ind., Charles
W. (Diana) Dolk of Indianapolis, Ind., and Linda A. Dolk and Lucia M. Dolk,
both of Chesterton; grandchildren Charles (Amy) Dolk, Meredith (Ryan) Seydel,
Laura (Jake) Hitze and Kaitlyn Dolk and great-grandchildren Lilly Hitze,
Cassandra Morris and Carly Dolk.
Grace is also survived by her siblings Roy (Corrine) Peterson and Marie
Kluth, both of Chesterton and sister-in-law Millie Peterson of Porter, as
well as many nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her siblings Helen Wahl, Frances Morrison,
Robert Peterson, Clara Peterson and Paul Peterson.
Grace was an active member of Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. She
enjoyed singing in the choir and was a member of the church council. She
worked at her family’s florist, Peterson Greenhouse, for 35 years. She was
Senior Deputy Assessor for Westchester Township, a member of the Order of
Eastern Star and involved in several pinochle and bridge groups. She was
also a member of Westchester homemakers, a leader in 4-H for 25 years and
was the Secretary on the 4-H Extension Board. Grace also participated in the
Valparaiso University Civic Choral Society for many years. She enjoyed
traveling, genealogy and spending time with her family.
There will be a private family visitation at White-Love Funeral Home with a
private family graveside service at Chesterton Cemetery.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Augsburg
Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 N Mineral Springs Rd, Porter, Ind., with
Pastor Erik Bernth officiating.
Memorial donations may be given to Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church and
the Alzheimer’s Association.
