Lydia “Ruth” Schrader, 86 of Chesterton passed away Thursday, January 19,
2012 at VNA Hospice, Valparaiso. She was born May 6, 1925 in Argos, Ind., to
Lorenzo and Leora Roose Antonides, both of whom preceded her in death.
Ruth is survived by her husband LaVerne Schrader of Chesterton, children
Kenton (Nancy) Young of Porter, Robert (Janice) Schrader of Chesterton and
Debra (Martin) Kreczmer of Round Rock, Texas and grandchildren Andrew and
Tim Young, Michelle and Robert Schrader and Joshua, Justin and Joseph
Kreczmer.
Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband and brother Russell (Kathe)
Antonides.
She was a member of Augsburg Evangelical Church, a teller at Chesterton
State Bank and worked for a time with Dr. McAfee in the animal hospital,
where her love of animals was apparent. Golden Retrievers and cats were her
favorites, but she loved all animals, feeding birds in the yard, cardinals
being her favorite, and collecting statues for her home.
Ruth and LaVerne enjoyed taking their pontoon boat on Lawrence Lake with a
picnic lunch for lazy afternoons. She enjoyed spending time with her
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 25,2012 at 11:00 a.m., with
visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Augsburg Evangelical
Church, 100 N. Mineral Springs Rd., Porter, with Pastor Erik Bernth
officiating.
Burial will be Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Culver Cemetery, Culver Ind.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 4:00-8:00
p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home 525 South 2nd St. Chesterton.
Memorials may be given to Augsburg Evangelical Church.
