Leroy A. Piper, age 82 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Monday, November 5,
2012 at his home.
He was born December 25, 1929 in Valparaiso, Ind., to Ernest J. and Martha
A. (Williamson) Piper, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married
for 55 years to Barbara (Samuelson) Piper, who survives of Chesterton.
Leroy is also survived by his son, Wayne “Buck” Piper of Stanton, Mich.;
daughters, Linda (Willie) Lundewall of Portage, Ind., Jackie (Terry) Carter
of Jackson, Mich., Charlene (Henry) Pluta of Chesterton, Ind., and Janet
(Brandon) Muchesko of Porter, Ind.; brother, Donald Piper of Grand Forks, N.
Dak.; sisters, Shirley Pence of Valparaiso, Ind., and Eva Jean Lorenzen of
Arizona; grandchildren, Kathy (Jon) Harrington, Jennifer (David) Kasarda,
Rachel Piper, Danny Piper, David Pluta, Sara (Josh) Gibson, Christopher
Carpenter, Stephen (Melissa) Carter and Greg Carter; great-grandchildren,
Aidan Harrington, Emily and Jacob Kasarda and Hayden Carter; many nieces and
nephews; and many friends and “family” in the Amish and farming community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law Barbara Jo Piper;
brother Kenneth Piper; and sisters, Beulah Voight and Evalyon Johnson.
Leroy was a self-employed livestock hauler, formerly working as a steel
hauler.
Leroy was an avid horse and mule enthusiast and animal lover and belonged to
the Northwest Indiana Horse and Mule Pulling Association.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind.
Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery, Portage, Ind.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at
the funeral home.
