Isabel A. Wiseman dies at age 98

Isabel A. Wiseman, 98, of Tiffin, Ohio and formerly of Chesterton, Ind.; passed away Friday afternoon, March 16, 2012 at Elmwood at the Shawhan Assisted Living, in Tiffin.

On February 27, 1914 in Gary, Ind.; she was born to Rufus and Ida (Dalke) LaHayn.

She married Earl D. Collins and he preceded her in death in 1973.

She later married Raymond A. Wiseman and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Dave Gottfried of Tiffin; four grandchildren, Eric (Cathy) Gottfried, Scott (Kristine) Gottfried, Sandra (Bart) Breslow and Christine (Philip) Heavey; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, James Gerald Collins in 2004; brother, Paul LaHayn, two infant brothers, and a sister, Ruth Berrier.

Isabel was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and was a housekeeper for over 25 years for families in the Dune Acres area. She volunteered and was active in school and church in Chesterton, Michigan City and Tiffin. She was the president of the Kiwanis Sr. Citizens, volunteered at the Sharing Kitchen and was a Red Hatter. She swam at the YMCA, loved playing cards and had a vast collection of unusual Christmas cards.

The funeral service will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 3:30 p.m., at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424, with Rev. Pam Easterday officiating.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 23, in Chesterton Cemetery in Chesterton, Indiana.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, March 22, from 2-3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
