Glenn D. Bovard, 65, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away on November 12, 2012,
at University of Chicago Hospital.
Glenn was born on October 14, 1947, in Gary, Ind., to Wilbur and Elberta
“Bertie” (Sowell) Bovard.
On October 6, 1998, he married Diane Block, who survives him.
Glenn retired from the Indiana State Police, serving from Dec. 15, 1974 to
Oct. 14, 2007. He also worked for the Porter County Sheriff’s Department,
providing security at the court house.
Glenn also served his country in the United States Marine Corp. and
subsequently stepped on a land mine and was hospitalized for 18 months.
He is survived by his wife and his two Boston Terriers. He is also survived
by his siblings, Bonnie Dugle of Rising Son, Sissy (Jeffery) Eaton of
Vermont, and Diane (John) Tighe of Kentucky and many aunts, uncles, nieces
and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012, from 1:00
p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St., Valparaiso,
Ind.
A memorial service will follow the visitation at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations may be made to the
Porter County Animal Shelter or the Orak Shrine of Michigan City.
