George A. Rohde, age 76, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away Thursday,
October 11, 2012, at 7:45 a.m., in his home.
He was born July 17, 1936 in Chesterton, Ind., to the late George H. and
Clara (Yagelski) Rohde.
On September 10, 1960 in Gary, Ind., he married Karen Helvey, who survives
in Michigan City.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jane (Kenneth) Nowatzke of Michigan City; two
sons, Ross Allan Rohde and David Rohde of Michigan City; seven
grandchildren, Sarah Landis, Stephanie Rohde, Brian Nagel, Mary Henry,
Nicholas Pudlow, Jessica Pudlow and Zak Nowatzke; great-granddaughter Sasha
Rohde; three sisters, Beverly Milcarek, Barbara (Richard) Hahn, and Marjorie
Grattenthaler, all of Michigan City; and sister-in-law, Jill (Jim) Carden of
Westville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Carl Milcarek and Larry
Grattenthaler.
George retired as a glazer from Meyer Glass, Michigan City and served in the
U.S. Naval Reserves for eight years.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a life member of the
Michigan City Fish and Game Club. George was an avid hunter, fisherman and
was a man who wore many hats, repairing almost anything that needed fixing.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the
Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana,
with Rev. Mark Reshan officiating. Cremation will follow services and ashes
interred privately in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the Ott/Haverstock
Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Indiana.
