INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Retired Indiana Court of Appeals Judge William G. Conover has died. He was 86.

Court spokesman Martin DeAgostino says in a statement that Conover died Monday in Valparaiso.

Gov. Robert Orr appointed Conover to the state’s second-highest court in 1981. He retired in 1993, then served as a senior judge for two years.

The U.S. Navy veteran of World War II graduated from Valparaiso University in 1949 and the Valparaiso University School of Law in 1951. He was named judge of Valparaiso City Court the following year. Conover was Porter County Republican Chairman from 1958 to 1963 and served as Porter County prosecutor from 1963 to 1971.

He’s survived by his wife, Victoria, and four children, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements are pending at Moeller Funeral Home in Valparaiso.
