Evelyn Hunt, age 89, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Friday, March 16,
2012.
She was born September 18, 1922, in Ulysses, Kentucky to Haskie and Sylvia
(Maynard) Young.
On July 13, 1940 in Belfrey, Kentucky, she married Stevenson W. “Steve” Hunt
who passed away February 15, 2011.
Surviving are her children David (Judy) Hunt of Westville, Ind., Patricia
(Don) Detterman of Willard, Ohio, Wilson (Darlene) Hunt of Westville, Ind.,
11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her
son Fielden “Sonny” Hunt, daughter-in-law Sharon Hunt, grandson Stephen Hunt
and granddaughter Debra Kurtz.
Evelyn was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Stone Chapter #533 in
Kentucky, was a Grand Representative to Scotland for the State of Kentucky,
and was a Kentucky Colonel with the Order of Kentucky Colonels, an honor
bestowed on her by the governor of Kentucky in the 1980s.
She had a genuine gift for talking to and caring for others. Among her
favorite pastimes were quilting and telling stories to her grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 21, at the Newhard Funeral Home
in Westville, with Rev. Brenda Ludwig officiating. Burial was in Pinhook
Cemetery.
