Charles Benton Crout Sr., age 87 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 12, 1925, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Robert and Laura (Robinson) Crout, both of whom preceded him in death.

Charles is survived by his wife, Margaret (Seeberger) Crout of Chesterton; son, Charles Benton (Paula) Crout Jr., of Wellington, Nev.; daughter, Donna M. (Russell) Pawlak, of Chesterton; and grandchildren, Karen (Loren) Hall, Kyle Pawlak, Troy Pawlak; and great-granddaughter Camila Hall.

He was also preceded in death by his grandson Jeffrey Alan Pawlak.

Charles was an area resident for 49 years, and had retired from Bethlehem Steel after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a United States Navy Veteran. Charles was also a member of the D.A.V., the Izaak Walton League, The Moose, and the American Legion.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., with Father Lawrence Heeg officiating.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at 4:00 p.m.

Cremation services provided by Heritage Crematory, Portage, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, Charles’ family requests that donations be made to The Visiting Nurses Association, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, Ind., 46383.
