Wilbur H. Sadenwater, 90, of Valparaiso formerly of Michigan City passed away on Friday July 1, 2011 at 6:45 p.m. at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Ind.

Wilbur was born November 8, 1920 in Michigan City, to the late Edward and Alvina (Clausen) Sadenwater.

On December 25, 1941 in Michigan City he married Rosalie M. (Downs) Sadenwater, who passed away on January 2, 2011 after 69 years of marriage.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Russell of Michigan City and Cristine Steele of Valparaiso; four granddaughters, Amy Dombkowski of West Lafayette, Megan Russell of Edison, New Jersey, Kristen Miller of Denver, Colo. and Kaitlin Steele of Chicago, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Dax Dombkowski of West Lafayette; two sister-in-laws, Shirley (Bob) Kelly of Michigan City and Donna Roames of Des Plaines, Ill.; one brother-in-law James (June) Downs of Michigan City; beloved niece Carolyn (David) Hauk and several other very special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Rosalie; four sisters, Alice, Marian, Dorothy and Mildred; two brothers, Russell and Harold; son-in-law Charles "Buzz" Russell and many other relatives and friends.

He worked for Heitchmidt and Erb Lumber Companies in Michigan City.

He was a lifetime resident of Michigan City and LaPorte County until 2005, when he and his wife Rosalie moved to Valparaiso.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II.

He enjoyed years of square dancing and round dancing with his wife and LaPorte friends. He loved to play softball, go fishing and bowling for most of his life. He enjoyed his country home for 40 years and rooted for the Cubs every year of his life.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was treasured by his entire family.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 11, at 6:00 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home with Rev. Lance Hilberg officiating. Cremation has taken place. Burial will follow at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.

A time of remembrance will be held on Monday from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Horton VNA Hospice Center, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46385.
