Services set for William Stumpf, 85

William M. “Uncle” Stumpf, age 85, of Chesterton passed away Saturday April 23, 2011 at the Waters of Duneland Nursing Center.

He was born February 2, 1926 in Hartford, Mich., to William and Marion (Ainsworth) Stumpf.

His family moved to Chesterton in 1933 and he has been an area resident ever since. He was a veteran of the US Navy, US Marine Corps, and the US Army completing over twenty years combined service. He was a life member of the Valparaiso VFW Post, a member of the Chesterton American Legion Post, and the Chesterton Loyal Order of the Moose. He was an avid bowler and volunteered to work the Pit Gate at Illiana Motor Speedway for several years. He was also a member of Faith Mission Church.

He is survived by one sister Laura Wise of Chesterton, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters Maybelle Burden, Hattie Stumpf and Margaret Hollis.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday April 29, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home 517 Broadway Chesterton, Indiana, 46304 with Rev. Kenneth Dishman officiating.

Burial will follow at Furnessville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday April 28, at the Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts are preferred to the Faith Mission Church 818 N. 500 W. Valparaiso, IN 46383.
