Pedro N. Torres of Gary passed away on Monday, March 14, 2011 in Gary. He was 87.

He was born on January 31, 1924 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico to Justa Torres. He is a retired supervisor from U.S. Steel. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII and a former member of the Knights of St. John. He also was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Church in Gary. Pedro loved his family very much and his home in Puerto Rico. He could fix anything he put his hands on.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alicia (Rivera-Beltran) Torres of Gary; son Peter (wife Maria) Torres of LaPorte; daughters Nilda Martinez of Gary and Awilda Torres of Chesterton; seven grandchildren Peter (Marcy) Torres, Michael Torres, Christopher Torres, Peter Colon, Alicia (Stefan) Harris, Jason (Ozgur) Torres and Brain (Holly) Regnier; and 15 great grandchildren Christopher, Isabella, Olivia, Audrey, Chelsea, Steffi, Stefan, Justin, Cyan, Peter, Christopher, Gavin, Gage, Layla, and Tylor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Church, 6060 Miller Ave., Gary, with Father Selvaraj Selladurai officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage and one hour prior to Mass on Saturday at the Church.
