Funeral services for Ray H. Kroft will be held at Frain Mortuary
Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medary-ville, Ind., on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11
a.m. EDT. The officiating clergy will be Bill McNabney. The American Legion
will conduct military graveside services.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Friday, at Frain Mortuary
Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medary-ville, Ind. Burial will take place at St.
John Cemetery, Medaryville, Ind.
Memorial Contributions may be given to St. John United Church of Christ.
Ray was married to Joan Ellis on Sept. 24, 1954, in Boone Grove, Ind., who
survives.
He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Medaryville, and the
Medaryville Lion’s Club.
Ray was a veteran of the US Army during WWII and was discharged as a Staff
Sergeant. He earned a Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star. He was a
member of the Medaryville American Legion.
He was member of the Pulaski County Council for 25 years and was a former
President of the Council. He also was a member of the Kankakee-Iroquois
Regional Planning Commission, and Pulaski Memorial Hospital Foundation Board
of Trustees.
Ray was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Frank O’Bannon.
Survivors also include daughters Karen (Ben Jr.) Smolek, of San Pierre,
Ind.; Janis Potter, of Sapulpa, Okla. and Marcia (Greg) Schoeneck, of
Valparaiso, Ind.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Also, his twin brother Robert (Agnes) Kroft, of Logansport, Ind. and sisters
Alladean Clouser of Winamac, Arlos Epler of Francesville and Doris Becker of
Rensselaer.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Kroft and Grace Tetzloff
Kroft as well as sisters Louella Hively and Georgianna “Dolly” Fritz.
