Mathew Wayne Johnson, age 37 of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at his home.

He was born December 25, 1973 in Valparaiso.

Mathew is survived by his father, Charles W. Johnson of Madison, Wisc.; mother, Cathy Johnson of Portage; daughters, Ariana Johnson of Monon, and Sidney Johnson of Michigan City; brother, Jeremy Johnson (fiancée Lisa Pearson) of Chesterton; sister, Charity (Anthony) Girgenti of Valparaiso; maternal grandparents, Carl and Darlene Hart of Chesterton; niece, Madison Girgenti of Valparaiso; nephews, Cade Girgenti of Valparaiso, and Joshua Pearson of Chesterton; and several aunts and uncles.

Mathew was a lifelong area resident and participated in several softball leagues. He worked as a Mechanic for the State Highway Department.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cremation will take place at Heritage Crematory, Portage. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to help provide for his children’s future.
