Martha 'May' Etchason, 80, services Monday

Martha “May” Etchason, 80, of Chesterton, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Porter Hospital.

She was born March 2, 1931 in Liberty Township to William and Ethel (Bull) Ruge, and graduated from Liberty Township High School.

On November 15, 1952 she married Robert E. Etchason who survives along with sisters-in-law Margaret Ruge, Bernice Ruge and Olive Etchason; brother-in-law Bernard Pestow and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Gilmore, Ethel Curtis and Isabel Pestow and brothers Richard, Byron, William and Donald Ruge.

May had worked as a bookkeeper for the Texaco Oil Bulk Plant in Valparaiso for many years prior to establishing Daisies, Etc. Baskets and Supply Company with her husband.

She will be fondly remembered for her forthright opinions, “can do” attitude and inclusive nature. May will be dearly missed.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Heritage Lutheran Church, 308 N. Washington St., Valparaiso, Rev. Joseph Ostafinski officiating with burial at Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso.

The family asks that memorials be made to Heritage Lutheran Church Building Fund.
