John Gallagher services set

John “Jack” Robert Gallagher (age 76) of Beverly Shores, Indiana passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois.

He was born January 16, 1935 in Chicago to John Joseph and Lyda J. (Blyth) Gallagher.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol J. (Wasowicz) Gallagher and his four children, Victoria (Thomas) Fredrichs of Washington, D.C., Robert (Darlene) Gallagher of Munster, Ind., Matthew (Meg) Gallagher of Los Angeles, Calif., and Michael (Tara) Gallagher of Glenview, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren, Jack, Henry, Joseph, Sam, Liam, Delaney, Grace, Peter, Ainsley, Margaret Tierney and Ailsa Gallagher.

He is also survived by his sister, Ann Cummings of Chicago, Ill. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Gallagher and sisters, Mary Barnes and Jean Anderson.

He and his wife, Carol, raised their family in Flossmoor, Ill. and lived there for 28 years. In 2000, he and Carol retired to Beverly Shores. Jack was a member of St. Ann of the Dunes Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and Peace and Social Justice Commission. He was also a council member for the Association of Beverly Shores Residents. Jack retired from Borg-Warner Automotive Corp. after 22 years. He served as a crew chief for the Army’s first helicopter unit.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne of the Dunes Catholic Church, 433 E. Golfwood Rd., Beverly Shores, Ind.

Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind. Memorials may be made to HandsTogether.org
