George Stout dies at age 83

George T. Stout, age 83 of Porter, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 at his home. He was born on November 7, 1927 in Hannah, Indiana to Alpha Eugene Stout and Mabel Ruth Bell-Stout, both of whom preceded him in death.

On September 25, 1950 he married Doris Stout, who preceded him in death in 2010.

He is survived by his children Connie Wallace of LaPorte, Pam (Bob) Furdo of Chesterton, Deb Moulton of Porter, Dennis Stout (Connie Binversie) of LaPorte and Candy (Paul) Jones of Dyersburg, Tenn. Along with ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn (Jack) Olson of Rockford, Ill. and Eva Dothager of Greenville, Ill.

Stout was a member of the American Legion Post 170 where he was the Boys State coordinator for several years, and was a volunteer for the Experimental Aircraft Association for ten years.

He also helped found and maintain the American Museum for Military Vehicles. He was awarded the Citizen of the Year in Porter.

He was also an avid reader, loved to tinker in his garage building and restoring vintage lawn mowers and he worked at the Porter hardware store for several years.

His sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew him.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 1, at 4 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, with Pastor Dennis Carroll officiating.

A Legion Service will follow the funeral service.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Cremation will follow.

Memorials may be given to St. Anthony Hospice, Michigan City, Indiana and the American Legion Post 170, Chesterton, Ind.
