Edward Robert Crum, age 74, of Valparaiso, passed away on Thursday, October
13, 2011 at VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was born on September 8, 1937
in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to Edward and Ruth Landstrom-Crum, both of whom
preceded him in death.
On February 24, 1961 in Richmond, Virginia, he married Patricia Curran-
Crum, who survives in Valparaiso.
Also surviving are children Kimberly Matuszak of Carls Bad, California and
Todd Crum of Valparaiso. Grandchildren Sean Michael (Regan) Matuszak of
Anderson, Ind., Patrick Tyler Matuszak of Fishers, Ind. and Elora Danan
Matoszak of Carls Bad, Calif. and siblings Paul (Eileen) Crum of Dallas,
Texas, “Bill” George William and (Amy Bendel) of McKeesport, Pennsylvania
and Karen Acuff of Naples, Fla. and many nieces and nephews and special
uncle Duane (Dewey) Landstrom.
He is also preceded in death by his grandparents, mother and step-father
Ruth and George Bendell, his father Edward Anthony Crum and nephew Jake
Bendell.
Ed retired in 2000 from Midwest Steel, where he worked as a stocker for 33
years. He was a member of Local 6103 and the National Steel Retiree Club. He
loved sports, especially football. This past summer he attended the Steeler
training game with his brother Bill. He was discharged from the Navy in
October of 1962.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 17, 2011 from 2-8 p.m. at
the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, Ind., with a
funeral service at 4 p.m., with Pastor John Allen officiating.
A memorial service will take place at a later date in spring of 2012.
