Edmund “Ed” Bannon Jr., age 76 of Griffith, passed away on Saturday October 1, 2011.

He is survived by his children Michael (Sue) Bannon of Chesterton, two sons and one daughter, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sisters Joyce Calgaro (nee Bannon) of Missouri and Edith Costello (nee Bannon) of Arizona, and his extended family Margaret Verkuilen and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edmund and Elsie and by his sister Alma Hutter.

Ed was retired from IBEW Local # 697. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Griffith Lion’s Club (recipient of the Progressive Melvin Jones Award), Griffith Emergency Fund, Boy Scouts (Recipient of the Bronze Pelican Award). Ed was also an Air Force Veteran.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 525 N. Broad St. in Griffith with Fr. Theodore Mens celebrating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville.

Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, October 4 from 3-8:00 p.m. at the White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Ave. in Griffith. There will be an afternoon wake service at 4:30 p.m. and an evening Lions service at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the Indiana Lions Cancer Control Fund Inc., the Griffith Emergency Fund, or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
