Dorothy Jane (Keliher) Pope of Liberty Township passed away on Sunday, Feb.
6, 2011 in Chesterton. She was 88.
Dorothy was born on Oct. 17, 1922 in Valparaiso to James Keliher and Rosalie
Delworth-Keliher, both of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Irvin Pope of Liberty Township;
eight children Larry (wife Patti) Pope of Valparaiso, Jim (Debbie) Pope of
Chesterton, Tim (Laurie) Pope of Valparaiso, Philip (Juli) Pope of LaPorte,
Linda (husband Skip) France of Noblesville, Pamela (Tyler) Noel of Niles,
Mich., Susan (Douglas) Betz of Chesterton and Teresa (Bill) Black of
Chesapeake, Va.; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a brother
Jerry (Jean) Keliher of Lady Lake, Fla.
She is also preceded in death by her two brothers.
She graduated from Liberty Center High School and South Bend Business
College. She was a loving, caring wife and mother. She enjoyed her children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and baker,
enjoying life to the fullest. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic
Church, St. Patrick Senior Club, National Counsel of Catholic Women (NCCW),
Girls 4-H Leader, Farm Bureau and Birthday Club. She volunteered as a Rosary
maker and at the Waters of Duneland Nursing Home and at Jackson Elementary
Library.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. at
St. Patrick Catholic Church, 648 North Calumet Road, Chesterton, with Father
James Meade officiating. Burial will be in Chesterton Cemetery. The family
will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 11 from 2 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6
p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton.
