Chester D. Heckman, age 76 of Michigan City, Ind., passed away Sunday, July
17, 2011 at his home.
He was born December 25, 1934 in East Gary, Ind., to Irvin R. and Mary
Elizabeth (Piefer) Heckman.
Chester was married on January 31, 1959 in Chesterton, to Laura J. Charlson,
who survives in Michigan City.
Chester is also survived by his son, Tom (Chris) Heckman of LaPorte;
siblings, Richard (Marie) Heckman of Michigan City; Grace (Mel) Kleckner of
Hobart; Mary (Richard) Rebeck of Wheeler; Charles (Kathy) Heckman of
Portage; Howard (Cathy) Heckman of Rochester and Peggy (Roger) Koedyker of
Valparaiso.
Also, grandchildren, Eric (Lindsay) Heckman, Jenna Heckman, Tiffany and
Tarra Heckman Fine, all of LaPorte; as well as great-granddaughter, Aerilyn
Heckman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin R. Heckman and mother, Mary
Elizabeth Singer; son, David Heckman; brother, Eldon Heckman and sister,
Melissa Heckman.
Chester was a lifelong area resident. He worked as a Supervisor for NIPSCO,
retiring in 1985. Chester was an avid bowler and coached Inter City Baseball
for more than 15 years in Michigan City.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Burial will follow
at Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home.
