Bloyd Burton service set

Bloyd B. Burton of Chesterton passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011 in Chesterton. He was 97.

He was born Jan. 17, 1914 in Moundsville, W. Va., to Samuel and Ollie (Mason) Burton, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1937 in Moundsville, W. Va., Bloyd married Velsie Richardson, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by his children Carol (husband Richard) Wilson of Porter and Richard (wife Darlene) Burton of Porter; grandchildren Richard, Patricia, Michelle and Candace of Chesterton; great grandchildren Ashley, Cole and Madison; and siblings Bob (Norma) Burton of Portage and Betty Kirby of Franklin, Tenn.

Bloyd was preceded in death by his brothers Okla, Webster, Corbett and Charles.

Bloyd was a life member of the American Federation of Musicians. At 19, his “Bloyd Burton Band” played for radio WNBO in Washington, Pa. After moving to Chesterton, he continued with his band. In his younger days he loved boxing. He was a steelworker at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. for 40 years. He loved travelling, visiting places like Europe and Africa. Bloyd was a member of the Save the Dunes Council and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m. from White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton with Pastor Jane Aicher officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 1 at White-Love Funeral Home. For more information, call 926-1309.
