Chesterton resident Janet C. Benedict, 71, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010,
at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus.
She was born November 5, 1938 in Logansport, Ind., the daughter of James and
Pauline Freeman Miller, who preceded her in death.
On Feb. 14, 1956, in Winamac, Ind., she married Willie “Bill” F. Benedict
Sr. who survives in Chesterton.
She is also survived by eight children, Thomas W. (Connie) Benedict Sr. of
Michigan City, Elizabeth Welsh of South Carolina, James (Sue An) Benedict of
Georgia, Willie “Bill” F. (Lisa) Benedict Jr. of Texas, Robert (Stephanie)
Benedict of New York, Mary C. (Keith) Wiesemann of Burns Harbor, Janis K.
(David) Wilgus of Wanatah, and Amanda (Dustin) Dennison of Chesterton; 21
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Gloria Rife of Winamac; and
brothers Michael Miller of Indianapolis and Gary Miller of Winamac.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Miller.
Janet was a member of Duneland Community Church and her hobbies included
gardening, playing poker, and painting pictures. She was a loving mother,
grandmother and great grandmother.
Funeral services, Pastor Greg Arthur officiating, are scheduled for 11 a.m.
Monday, April 19, 2010 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South Second St. in
Chesterton. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at
White-Love.
Memorials may be given to the Duneland Community Church in Chesterton.
