Chesterton resident Yvonne Mae Firme passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at
6:05 p.m. in Laporte Hospital. She was 87.
Born May 1, 1922 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and
Kathryn (McLaughlin) Firme.
She is survived by nephews Leo Firme and Kevin Firme of Beverly Shores, Ted
Firme of California, and Dennis Firme of Baltimore, Md.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn L. Firme.
She retired as a music teacher with the East Chicago School System and was a
member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. She received her bachelor degree
and master's degree from DePaul University and was very instrumental in
bringing the C.Y.O. bands to the Catholic Schools in Indiana.
A Requiem Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at St. Stanislaus
Catholic Church with the Rev. John Hogan officiating. Private burial will
take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Worth, IL. Visitation will be from
4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington
St., Michigan City. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the
chapel.
