Jackson Township resident William Henry Waldman passed away on September 20,
2010 at his home. He was 85.
William was born on July 4, 1925 in Janesville, Wisc. to John Henry Waldman
and Ruth Carle Ashcraft-Waldman, both of whom preceded him in death. On
Sept. 6, 1961, William married Dorothea “Dolly” E. Burger-Waldman in
Tijuana, Mexico. They celebrated 49 years together.
He is survived by his wife, Dolly, of Jackson Township; sons William H.
“Willie” Waldman (wife Renee) of LaPorte, Frederick A. Waldman (Erin) of
Altadena, Calif.; daughter Lizabeth Hancock (husband Albert) of Chicago and
Valparaiso; grandson Liam A. Waldman; and brother John Waldman (Lila) of
Madison, Wisc.
He was preceded in death by his brother Robert in 2003. He was a member of
St. Paul Episcopal Church in LaPorte, a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity
and a USC Alumni. He was also a director of the Industrial Development of
the Milwaukee St. Paul and Pacific Railroad and a consultant for Ancillary
Railroad Properties. He served with the Naval Beach Party in the Pacific.
William earned five stars in the Asiatic Pacific Area, two stars in the
Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the American Area, Good Conduct Medal and the
Victory Medal of WWII.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul
Episcopal Church, 1000 Michigan Ave., LaPorte with Reverend Anthony F. M.
Clavier officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 22
from 4 to 8 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd Street,
Chesterton. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Episcopal Church in William’s
