Service set for Theodore Martin 'Ted' Iwan

Porter resident Theodore Martin “Ted” Iwan passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at his home. He was 85.

He was born October 24, 1924 in Gary. On Sept. 11, 1990 in Kentucky, he married Lenora Charlson, who survives in Porter.

He is survived by four children, Starla VanWormer (husband John) of Portage, Linde Hardaway (Larry) of Quincy, Ill., Jan Brown of Florida and Tim Iwan of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Kelsi and Kadie VanWormer; and brother Joe Iwan (wife Barb) of Illinois.

He is preceeded in death by siblings John Iwan, Theresa Struebig, Cecilia Biggs and Evelyn Mysogland.

Ted was a United States Navy veteran, a member of the VFW Post #2511 of Porter, American Legion Post #170 of Chesterton and a member of the Moose Lodge #1623. He was the owner of the Frost Stop in Miller, a bartender at the Red Carpet Lounge in Portage and Jerry’s Tap in Porter. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, enjoyed gardening, collected Kermit the Frog memorabilia and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m. from the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. For more information, call 926-1309.
